Sculptra

Sculptra

Sculptra is a biostimulatory aesthetic injectable that helps stimulate your own natural collagen production to smooth facial wrinkles and improve skin tightness, revealing a refreshed-looking you.

How Does Sculptra Work?

  1. Injection & Initial Volume (Day 1) Sculptra is injected into the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer. The carrier gel (containing sterile water and mannitol) provides temporary volume, which dissipates within a few days.

  2. Biostimulation Phase (Weeks 1–4) The PLLA microparticles act as a scaffold, creating tiny “injuries” that attract fibroblasts (collagen-producing cells). This triggers the body’s natural healing response, stimulating new collagen synthesis.

  3. Collagen Remodeling (Months 1–6) Over the next few months, the PLLA breaks down into lactic acid (a natural substance in the body). Fibroblasts continue producing new collagen, gradually restoring volume and skin thickness. Full results typically appear after 4–6 months.

  4. Long-Term Results (Up to 2+ Years) Unlike HA fillers (which last 6–18 months), Sculptra’s collagen-building effects can last 2 years or more. Collagen degrades slowly, so results fade gradually.

How Soon Will I See Results?

Typically treatment will take three visits during a 4-6 month period where Sculptra is injected into the area and time is taken to let it settle in the skin correctly, creating micro-tears that stimulate your body’s collagen production making for a full and wrinkle free face, or any other area affected by the product. Over the course of the next 6-9 months, your own collagen will continue to stimulate and your results will continue to improve with full effect around 9 months.

Am I a Candidate?

Sculptra is generally safe for most individuals, but it’s not suitable for everyone. People with severe allergies, a history or predisposition to keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring, or those with autoimmune problems may not be good candidates. Additionally, pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should not use Sculptra, nor should those with an active infection or inflammation at the treatment site.

Key Differences vs. Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Conclusion

Sculptra works by tricking your body into making its own collagen, leading to natural, long-term volume restoration. It’s ideal for patients who want subtle, structural rejuvenation rather than instant filler effects.
